On Thursday we were visited by Aimee and Sarah from the Big Orkney Song Project. They sang some song from when sailors used to sing sea shanties, then we had a go at making our own up-to-date sea shanty that would reflect what is happening on the seas around Orkney.

European Landmark Modelling
We have been creating a large wall map for our Europe topic. Now that we have the countries and capital cities labelled, we are using the information we researched to create clay models of famous landmarks. It was a little messy, but Mr Gallacher & Mrs Ruddick did their best to help us with building accurate models!
Primary Six having fun when clay modelling.
You might see this famous landmark on the 10 'o' clock news, any guesses?
Contraction Conundrums
On Monday we were learning how to use contractions in our writing. You might use them when some one is speaking as they would say words such as 'we've' rather than 'we have' or 'I've' rather than 'I have'. We played a matching game as part of a carousel of activities for language, the other games included online spelling tests, reading and Glow. We'll be using what we've learnt on Thursday in our imaginative writing, when we have to write speech.

Well done Hurricanes!
On Saturday the 13th of February the final of the Primary Indoor League was held at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall. St Andrews Hurricanes needed only to win one of their four games to clinch the title. After an exciting game against Real Dounby they managed to win 3-1, and as a result won the league with an undefeated 40 winning games.
Congratulations to all members of the St Andrews Hurricanes, especially those from Primary 6! Special mention should be made to the St Andrews Dynamos also, who finished in a very respectable 10th position.

Congratulations!
At assembly last week Primary Six were presented with certificates on their successful completion of the Rugby Diaries Programme. They have had great fun learning the skills of tag rugby with Bruce Ruthven, while also learning the importance of staying active and healthy with Mr McIntosh. Well done guys!
A French Experience
Primary Six thoroughly enjoyed their visit from Miss Smith of Stromness Academy when we, as part of our Europe topic, experienced some aspects of French culture. We started the day looking at where Miss Smith stayed in France.
Then we went on to learn what a typical french breakfast would consist of. We tried croissants, pain au chocolat, chocolat chaud and many other things!
Children in France also have to go to school, so we found out about what is different about their school day. We also listened to some french popular music and tried to work out what they were singing about: we did really well! Finally we looked at comics, which are a very popular hobby in France. We even had a go at writing our own!

Clearly enjoying the croissants!
